The Convent of the Good Shepherd replaced by condos?

In recent weeks, one can see a sign announcing the next condo building on the site of the former convent of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, on Henri-Bourassa Boulevard.

Constructions carried by Urbi, the "Condos-Nature" provides a priori the delivery of 24 condos in the summer of 2014, with access to an indoor parking and a private park. 3 ½, 4 ½ and 5 ½, detailed from 144 $ 900, and should grow on that place where stood the convent and the chapel sold in 2013 by the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, who occupied since 1869 .

The fate of these monastery buildings is also still unknown. Certainly, the project will be subject to the approval of the Planning Commission and conservation of Québec (CUCQ), confirmed Alexander Armstrong, consultant public consultations in Quebec City, at the Council meeting of Notre-Dame-des-Laurentides held in December.

Since last August, the site of the Good Shepherd residence Charlesbourg was indeed added to the list of "monastic properties elevated asset" subject to the jurisdiction of the CUCQ. Any proposed change in the external architecture of the buildings in question will be brought to the attention of the 10 members who sit there, among which are municipal officials and experts. A large number of criteria and analysis relating to the identity, integrity and authenticity of the buildings will guide their evaluation, which will also consider the integration of the project in the middle. "No building permit or certificate of authorization can not be issued without the approval of the Commission," it said finally on the website.

No permits have therefore not yet been issued, Patrick Voyer, Councillor of Notre-Dame-des-Laurentides and member of the executive committee, declined to comment on the case. At most, Mr. Armstrong he blurted out that "the destruction of the chapel would [...] not in question", insisting conditional information he received from the City.

As the promoter, he has not responded to our requests for information.
